Will my son be required to pay taxes on my home if I leave it to him? 1 Answers as of July 31, 2011
I am a Senior who resides in FL. I have a will in the event of my demise, and my son will inherit the house. Will my son have to pay taxes on this? Is it better for me to put the house in his name? If in the future I require assisted living assistance will the equity in my home be used? Thank YouFree Case Evaluation by a Local Lawyer!

Florida does not have inheritance tax, if that is what you mean. He would be responsible for property taxes once he inherits it. You should seek the advice of an elder law attorney to discuss your other issues because a transfer of your house to your son could affect your ability to qualify for nursing home Medicaid.
