Will the debt for the co-signer be eliminated? 1 Answers as of September 09, 2010

I co-signed for a loan with my father. This may be a naïve question, but when I file for bankruptcy will this eliminate his debt as well?

Bankruptcy does not eliminate debt. It discharges the legal obligation to pay on a debt. If you receive a discharge of debts in a bankruptcy you filed, it does not affect anyone elses liability on those, or any other, debts. In short, your father will still owe whatever he owes now.
