Who is liable for vet bills when a dog is injured in a sitter's car? Posted on July 04, 2011

I hired a girl to dog sit in her home for five days while my family was out of town. When we got him home we noticed that he was walking with a limp, had an injury to his eye and was acting very withdrawn. The lady said that he could have gotten into an "argument" with another dog she was keeping. Who is responsible for the vet bills? I understand that whatever happened could have been accidental but he was under her care. I also found her to be very unprofessional when I picked him up. She had no idea which bag of food, leash, or food dishes belonged to him. Is this negligence?
