Who can help me with back taxes? 2 Answers as of September 07, 2010
I am supposed to be receiving money from a lawsuit and I do not really know how it will affect my taxes. I also owe money in backtaxes and want to get it straightened out. Do I need a tax lawyer or just a tax professional like a CPA?Free Case Evaluation by a Local Lawyer!

I would recommend scheduling an appointment with a tax attorney who is also a CPA. The tax attorney may be able to assist you in getting a reduction or compromise on your back taxes and they may also be able to address the taxation from your lawsuit. Keep in mind that the proceeds from some lawsuits, such as personal injury claims, may not be taxable. Talk with the attorney about this while you are addressing the back tax issue.
You may contact our office to schedule an appointment if you have further questions or if you need assistance with this issue.

A CPA should be all you need. A tax lawyer may be necessary if you need a attorney-client protected confidential relationship which only a lawyer could afford you.
