What will happen to my international inherhitance? Posted on March 21, 2011

My father is a French citizen and a legal US resident, and I have 2 older half brothers who are also French citizens and who reside in France. I am a natural US citizen and I live in Chicago. When my paternal grandmother (also french) passed away she had substantial hospital bills and real estate taxes on a property which my father inherited. He is currently ducking his responsibility and my French brothers are concerned about him passing the debt to us. It is our understanding that (according to french law) the full inheritance must be rejected by all siblings in order for no one to be responsible for this debt. How can I officially deny/reject his inheritance on the US side to keep them from suffering the burden of this debt?
