What will the consequences of theft be? 2 Answers as of March 22, 2011

My 17 year old got caught stealing a candy bar. Police were called ( they said because no ID) there is a court date set. First offense. Do I need a lawyer to make this disappear or what can I expect?

To disappear, yes, you will probably need an attorney. If you get an attorney you have a better chance of convincing the prosecutor to amend the charges to something less serious (i.e. "littering"). Otherwise she will probably only be offered probation, but will have to plead guilty to the stealing. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact my office. Good luck!

You will need a lawyer to make sure that she does not get a conviction on her record. Otherwise there is a chance that a stealing conviction could be placed on her record permanently.
