What should I do if I was arrested for scanning fake refunds for my employer? 6 Answers as of December 30, 2011

I never got arrested or in trouble with the law before. I was caught scanning fake refunds from my employer of 2 years and offering up merchandise for the refund value. I admitted doing this to them on paper. The value estimates at fifteen hundred to two thousand. I got arrested for it. I do not want a felony charge. What should I do?

Consult with an attorney. If you have a clean record and all else in your favor, a plea bargain can possibly be negotiated between your lawyer and the district attorney to plea to a lessor (non-felony) offense or possibly even a dismissal of the charges.

Your charge might just get dropped to a misdemeanor. I don't think that you will walk for this one.

You were foolish to steal as a cashier as they can trace it o you easily. Then you were easily manipulated into confessing. If you have no prior record you will probably be allowed to plead to a misdemeanor Petty Larceny and get three years probation. You ruined your reputation and chances of ever getting a good job and must now deal with being labeled a thief for the rest of your life. You are not a good decision maker. You will have to make better decisions in the future.

You should hire a good lawyer. The amount is over the felony limit and there could be other felony charges related to the faked goods, but these can be dropped to misdemeanor charges and you have options as to how to take care of those. your lawyer needs to start presenting the DA with favorable evidence. The charges could be dismissed if you were to agree to certain conditions.
