What penalty do I face for a criminal mischief charge? Posted on March 31, 2011

I have been charged with criminal mischief for having started a small brush fire. This was within the fence-less area of a neighbor's yard, where the remnants of a burnt shed were standing, on the cusp of an alleyway. Where the fire emerged, weathered boards, twigs and trash were piled. I have no prior convictions. I have enlisted a local lawyer for assistance on a pre-trail date, but was wondering, based on your knowledge of such a situation, what I may except as a penalty under NJ law?
