Usually just a fine. The problem is that MIP has DMV consequences and can result in a suspended license. You need to hire an attorney to reduce this to something that doesn't carry any DMV consequences.

You will most likely receive, and should insist on, no more than a dismissal, an infraction, or at most, a Welfare and Institutions Code section 654, Informal Probation, which is a conditional dismissal after you do some classes and/or volunteer work.

While the consequences are generally light, such as classes, fines and community service, you need to be aware that, unless you get diversion and the case is dismissed, the court will notify the DMV you have been "adjudicated" (juvenile equivalent of a finding guilty) and the DMV will suspend your drivers license for a year.

If you are convicted you will likely lose your driver's license for a year. You might want to get an attorney to see if this can be avoided.

When charged in adult court with any misdemeanor, you potentially face up to 6-12 months in jail. In Juvenile court, similar sentencing is possible, BUT, first time offenders, for such small offenses generally face only fines and probation as part of a plea bargain, maybe alcohol program attendance and license suspension.

The penalty for a MIP is a fine and a 1-year license suspension. You may be able to get a restricted license rather than a suspended one. An attorney may be able to have the charge reduced to an offense that does not require a suspension or restriction.
