Physical evidence in the form of DNA, signs of trauma or other objective findings certainly assists the police and prosecutor in charging and convicting a guilty person but are not necessary. If the complaining witness is credible and her statement of the facts made without apparent motive or other suspicious circumstances there is no reason a person can not be arrested and charged based on his or her word alone.
