What happens when terminating a lease? Posted on May 16, 2011

My 3 roommates and I just moved into a townhouse apartment in the beginning of march. So far we have had numerous problems such as; Gun shots almost every night, domestic disputes, people running through our yard at night, police chasing people through our yard at night, leaking basement, moldy basement, gas stealing, theft from out cars, one of our catalytic converters sawed off a car, and now termites and bugs taking over our kitchen. We have contacted our leasing office numerous times and also maintenance. The maintenance guy says he cannot really do anything more than we could do ourselves. The complex noted in there website and lease there was going to be 24/7 security and maintenance, which niether have helped us out at all. Also we have not heard back from our leasing office since we started calling. We have left notes and messages along with a sample of our termites. We have another house lined up and waiting for us to move into but our main concern is not being roped into paying off the remainder of our 12 month lease. We would like advice on how to go about doing this also so we dont get our credit messed up. We are only college students and dont want to be pushed around or get into anything they rope us into.
