What happens if you waive extradition? Posted on March 27, 2011

I have a friend who was issued a felony warrant from Illinois for a DUI after he could not find transportation to go back up north to handle his business. He was picked up in Louisiana and that is where he has been for a week. He has the option to waive extradition or fight it. Would it be better for him to fight extradition or waive it? If he waives extradition how long can Illinois wait before they pick him up? And, will the time he spends in jail here count as time served once he is back in Illinois?
