What happens if someone threatens to invoked bodily harm to another but does not do so? Posted on April 25, 2011

The situation was that a person was verbally provoking another, in which person 1 told person 2 if it were to continue person 1 would hurt them. In order to not harm person 2, person 1 left the room. Person 3, concerned, came to talk to person 1 and and person 1 told person 3 if he did not leave he would have severely injured person 2. To quote, "If i didn't leave that room, I would have put him in the hospital." However, after the talk person 1 became calm and no longer wished that anymore. Could these statements be considered a threat? As a bystander over hearing the conversation, I am concerned and should wonder what could/should happen.
