What happens if I do not pay an out of state divorce settlement? 2 Answers as of October 26, 2010

My ex filed for divorce in another state, where neither of us were residents and she won a crazy settlement. I make about two thousand a month and she was awarded $1400 a month. There are no children and the only appeals process would involve a trip I can not afford and Lawyers I certainly can not afford. What happens if I do not pay?

If the jurisdiction was lacking, you need to file a motion to set aside the Judgment. Or at least accept the jurisdiction/Judgment and file a motion to reduce the support Order. Almost all support Orders are modifiable. With or without an attorney, get on this ASAP.
