What happens if you get caught with 50 ecstasy pills when you’re underage but the court date isn't till two months later and between those two months you turn 18 which considers you an adult? Will they still charge you as a minor, or as an adult?

You get prosecuted as an adult for felony possession for sale, in all likelihood. The honest answer is that no attorney can predict the outcome, nor even give an intelligent opinion, without reviewing and knowing all the charges, evidence, police reports, testimony, priors history, etc.

The issue of age is based at the time of the offense. However, in California you can be charged as an adult if you are underaged. That determination is made by the DA and will be based on the facts of the case and your criminal history.

At 17, you are not a minor in the eyes of the law. Having 50 pills means they will likely be charging you with sales. You need to hire an attorney who handles drug sales cases as you are looking at some serious prison time.

You'll be handled in the juvenile system. It goes by the age you were at the time you committed the offense.

They can go either way. After you are 16 even if just 16 if it is serious enough they can send you to adult court.

The second part of the question is easier that the first. Since the incident occurred when you were a minor you will be charged as a minor in juvenile court. As to what will happen to you, that is a more complicated question. It depends on many factors, such as your criminal history (if any), the full circumstances of the case, you social history, and of course the exact charges. I will say that 50 ecstasy pills is quite a lot; it is indicative of sales which is a much more serious charge than simple possession. Get yourself a good criminal defense attorney between now and the court date to help you through this case.
