What effect will a school expulsion have on my child? Posted on February 25, 2011

My stepson was expelled from his elementary school for showing a folding knife to another student at the bus stop. The knife was later found in his backpack when he was called to the principle's office. He claimed ownership of the knife and did not lie. He showed no malicious intent, just possession. Are there past court cases that show these type of expulsions being overturned? What are the statistics in the state of West Virginia on expulsions (under the age of 12)? And what are the ramifications of this on his school record for later in life (college, employment opportunities, etc.)?
