What is the duration or date of the effect term? 1 Answers as of June 08, 2011

Are there difference in meaning between "twleve months after the date of signature" and "twelve months from the date of signature" ? If a contract takes effect "twelve months after the date of signature" and the date of signature is 1 Jan. 2010, when does the contract take effect?

The literal reading of the language you provide out of context means that the contract will not take effect until Jan. 1, 2011, a date twelve months after the date of signature or twelve months from the date of signature. However, it seems fairly obvious that the intent was for there to be a 1-year contract commencing Jan. 1, 2010 and terminating December 31, 2010. I would need to see whole contract to give a more definitive opinion.
