What do I do if I can't renew my license because of an old case in another state? 4 Answers as of December 12, 2011

I went to renew my license. I am and always have been a California license driver. My DMV is telling me Colorado is suspending my license from a 12 year old case. I was never in Colorado or licensed there. The DMV here is no help, the DMV in Colorado is no help. Can anybody help me?

Well you need to find out why Colorado thinks your license is suspended there. This may require hiring an attorney in Colorado. Until the Colorado situation is taken care of you will not get a valid license in CA.

Suggest you go to a website that lists Traffic attorneys in Colorado. Need to have a Colorado attorney first fix the issue with the Colorado DMV. Best of Luck to you.

That's an understatement as to the lack of help with DMV here in California. The problem has to be resolved in Colorado first. Whatever the problem there, it is preventing you from getting a renewal because all (or most) of the states data are now connected up. It could be something as simple as an unpaid parking ticket, to somebody else using your name, or an administrative mistake in Colorado, to a DUI conviction or the like. One has to go through the administrative quagmire to get the answers. But a criminal defense attorney should be able to help you to this.

If you have a twelve year old license suspension from another state you need to contact the court in the state and get information on what it is. If you do have an active warrant from that state the case should be dismissed after talking to the right person.
