What can I do to live with my boyfriend in the US? 8 Answers as of October 28, 2011

My boyfriend is living in the US. He is a green card holder. He wants to marry me here in Canada. How long it will take so that I can go to the US and petition me and how much it will cost? I am only holding a working permit here in Canada?

If your boyfriend/future husband doesn't become a US citizen, it may take up to 4 years for you to be able to immigrate to the US provided that you get married and file a petition.

Your boyfriend can marry you and petition for you right away. There is no time requirement that a person must wait. As he is only a green card holder, you will not have an immigrant visa immediately available. You will have to wait approximately 2-3 years for a visa to be available. However, if your husband becomes a naturalized citizen in the process it will speed up the case. Our office charges $2,500 for legal services and the United States Government charges approximately $1,000 in fees, but these fees are paid at different stages.
