What can I do in my landlord situation? Posted on July 09, 2011

I'm not quite sure I got the category right. When I moved into my apartment there was a hutch already in place. the building manager said I could have it, the landlord says she has a court order saying it is hers. And the third floor neighbors whom the hutch originally belonged to are saying she never got any such order. My landlord has told me to keep said hutch in the apartment until she comes to get it. I don't want it, and as I have seen no proof of ownership from any side, how am I supposed to get out of this unscathed. If I let my neighbors take it and she does have the court order, can I be held responsible for it? Or in that case if I let her take it and there is no such court order can the neighbors hold me legally responsible?
