What can I do if I need to get the real father on my sons Birth Certificate? Posted on March 23, 2011

I need to get the real father on my sons Birth Certificate, but because I was married at the time (separated-not legally). Vital records will not let me put him on the certificate. My ex-husband is not contesting paternity, and my son has been living with me and the real father his whole life. My ex-husband and I did not see this being a problem, so we did not include this issue in the divorce. I just need to know what papers I need to file for an amendment, or if there is any other way to do this. My ex said he would be more than happy to sign and notarize a letter stating he is not the father, and is not contesting paternity. What can I do?
