What are the renter's rights after a fire to the property? 2 Answers as of April 20, 2012

We had a grease fire at our house that we rent. The owners insurance company sent us a letter stating that we owe them $8300 for damages. The owner of the house only did part of the repairs that the insurance adjuster said needed doing. Are we responsible for paying th whole amount?

That depends on a lot of factors. Was the fire your fault? If so, the landlord's insurance company has the right to seek from you whatever they paid to the landlord.
