What are my rights regarding being required to commute? Posted on April 20, 2011

I was offered a position in the company that I am with and was told I could stay in our current office. I now have a new manager that wants me to commute to the office she is in (I cannot because of childcare). After speaking to HR I was told by not being able to commute I will be resigning. Is this correct? Don't they need to fire me? And if not will I be able to collect Unemployment benefits? If I knew this would be a problem I would have kept my old position. It was made clear before the position was accepted that I would NOT be able to do the commute.
