Was it legal for me to be forced to quit and why? 3 Answers as of August 28, 2015

I had turned a verbal two week notice in and was told I had to write it. I told the team lead that if I did not put it in his box then I was not quitting. They then called me into HR's office and I was left with no choice but to write it.

Yes. MS is an employment at will State, which means that they set the terms of your employment. They want a written resignation because it is proof you voluntarily quit.
