Should the police officers have let me go? 4 Answers as of August 22, 2011

I was high off weed and was in a car that was off. The officers came up with guns drawn and took my car but didn't give me a dui. They are crime statistic manipulators and I feel I should get my car back free of charge.

If they didn't charge you with any crime the seizure of your car was probably illegal and you should be compensated for your expenses. But you should get the car out and then make the claim. Leaving it with the police is not a good idea.

They have to have a reason to impound your car. You are entitled to a hearing with the police after a car is impounded. If they didn't a legal justification for impounding your car, they should return it.

Feel anything you like, but if you want your vehicle back, you have to pay the impound yard their fees, which are accumulating every day. You should feel happy they didnt arrest and charge you, which would have forced you to spend thousands of dollars on defense.

You really lucked out. They could have cited you for VC 23152(a). Cough up the dough and just go home and have a drink (but don't drive!).
