Should I retain a lawyer? Posted on November 02, 2010

I recently attended a NRA course called PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME. The program included a three hour presentation by John Chapman, Esq. from Portland who reviewed Maine state law. One of his recommendations was, in the event that you were forced to use deadly force to protect yourself or home was to call your lawyer after you called 911.

I have just moved to the area and do not have a family lawyer. I have a friend who is a lawyer but his practice is civil law. How do I pick and retain a good lawyer? Should I retain his/her services for something that may never happen?
