Must you be present for a small claims court hearing? 1 Answers as of November 16, 2010

I just moved to Ohio, but I have a billing issue back in Illinois and want to sue someone in small claims court there. It is a long story, but I just want to know whether I have to go back to Illinois for the hearing. Can I do it remotely?

Generally, the local rules of the court will dictate whether or not a party must be present for a hearing. You should contact the court to determine whether or not you will need to be present. If it is for the actual trial date, I would imagine that you will need to be present.
