Legally, what's more important: Organizational spending plan or a signed offer letter? Posted on March 11, 2011
I accepted a job here in Alaska with a church, offering $36,000 annually. I was paid that last year. However, the spending plan they had put together only included $33,000. This past fall, the church council voted (and approved!) a 10% increase for my salary, but that is only shaping up to be $36,300 annually (a 10% increase on their original spending plan, not on the agreement I signed). Should they honor what was offered to me, and give me 10% more, or should they honor their spending plan, and only pay me a 1% increase?
