Is lying about charitable donations considered tax fraud? Posted on October 20, 2010
Last year my husband and I donated a bunch of clothes and other items to Goodwill and Salvation Army. When we dropped it off at the collection sites, we were given tax deductible slips and told to fill them out ourselves. My husband decided to exaggerate and say that we donated more than we did which affected our overall deductions. Can the IRS audit us, and if they did, would we be charged with tax fraud?
