Is it legal to terminate me from my job based on my bankruptcy files? Posted on July 19, 2011

I have been with my current job for a few years now and a co-worker told my boss that I was in the process of filing for bankruptcy. My employer then pulled me aside and told me that I am now under revision and may be fired from my job. I have a good suspicion that it is because I am filing for bankruptcy, because I was not given any other reason. I did not realize I was obligated to report this issue to my employer. Is it legal for my employer to discriminate against me like that?
