Is it legal for my employer to tell me not to call the police if I recognize a wanted criminal in our building? Posted on June 12, 2011

I work in a public library. We have hundreds of people coming in on a daily basis, including many criminals. Our administration has informed us that we are not to notify the police if we recognize someone who has outstanding warrants, capias, etc. Most recently, an individual who was listed on the local police departments most wanted list was recognized by a staff member who informed the police, and the staff member was reprimanded for doing so by administration. Is this legal for them to do? Are there any legal consequences a person can face for not notifying police if they know a person is wanted?
