I would say no, it is not against the law. But it is in bad taste as it is considered a racial slur, which is defined as an insulting term and not appropriate in many social circles. Generally, there is no good reason to use such a term. Good luck.

Not in North Carolina. It will likely come to the point where using the word nigger is illegal but for now it seems only wealthy white people have anything to worry about when calling someone a nigger and even then its a civil law suit or a social punishment issue not a criminal one.
