What's his immigration status? Green Card Holder? Undocumented? A speeding ticket alone is not enough to be deported. However, if he is undocumented/illegally here, that, in and of itself, is enough to get him deported.

A traffic violation, such as speeding, should not result in your boyfriend's deportation.
The only traffic violations that may be problematic are those involving drugs and/or alcohol. Since those were not involved in your boyfriend's case, his court case should resolve the matter. In some states, including Minnesota, you can pay the fine and thereby satisfy your obligation.
