If I'm a minor caught shoplifting, will it be on my permanent record? 1 Answers as of May 11, 2016

I'm 17 years old and I was caught shoplifting at a grocery. I got arrested and now I'm just waiting for my court date. I was wondering if this would be on my permanent record?

At age 17, you are an adult in the court system you are not considered a minor for court purposes. So if you plead guilty to shoplifting, you will end up with a conviction for shoplifting on your permanent criminal record. This type of conviction can not be expunged (removed), so I highly recommend that you hire an attorney to get the shoplifting charged dismissed or reduced to a lesser offense, such as "Littering."
