If I moved and I didn't have a lease, can I be responsible for the rent if they were remodeling all the apartments? 3 Answers as of April 25, 2014

They send me a notice to go to court. I know I have to pay, maybe for a month, but not for a year. How do I solve this? Thank you.

Go to court and explain that you don't have a lease with the Landlord. The judge will ask to see the lease, which of course the landlord can't provide.

Not sure how long you were there without paying? The best way to resolve this may be to go to court and explain what happened to the judge. Is there a local legal aid resource you can consult with?
