If I cashed a check made out to myself in my own account for $500, will I go to jail? 2 Answers as of June 23, 2014

I cashed the check made out to myself in my account plus my friend wrote me a check for a grand and it bounced. Will I get arrested or will it go to collections?

This could be deemed a form of theft, wire fraud and bank fraud for which you could be sentenced to jail as a felon. You better hire criminal defense counsel ASAP.

It depends on what you knew about the check and what your intent was. If you knew the check would bounce and then withdrew funds knowing that they weren't there, then you committed a crime and could be prosecuted. If the police or bank try to question you, hire a lawyer and refuse to answer their questions.
