You either pay for the shoes to be fixed, or you pay them the replacement value of the shoes. Things that wear out are not worth what was paid for them when new.

Wow. If someone accidentally got paint on your shoes, would you want them to have the shoes cleaned or replaced? I think the rule is "do unto others, as you would have them do to you".
