How should I handle my parents legal estate? Posted on August 11, 2011

My mother is very ill right now but able to make financial decisions. I am her financial POA and on her banking account and safety deposit box. We thought it would be best to try to buy her house, (she currently owns it), for a small fee so that we can fix it up prior to selling it. She lived in Maryland and I live in Virginia. Who do we need to hire to make this happen, how low of a price can we buy it for, and how do we go between states in order to make this happen? We also thought about turning it into an estate, (I don't know exactly what that means) until we are ready to sell it. It currently is uninhabitable due to a deck that needs to be replaced and we are not ready to sell quite yet but want to very soon!
