How long does it take to get a green card if you have an F1 visa? 2 Answers as of May 24, 2011

I am a natural born US citizen. My boyfriend is currently a F1 visa holder and he graduates from college May 2012, we plan on getting married in March 2013. How long will it take to receive a green card, and will he have to leave the US in order to receive it?

In most cases, the process will take between 4 and 6 months to get the green card. He does not have to leave the U.S. Great case. Congratulations.

You don't get green card automatically following F1 visa. You need to get a job who is willing to sponsor you..etc, etc.
