How long can a probation violator be held? 1 Answers as of July 07, 2011

My friend was on probation after being arrested and then transferred from another state. HE couldn't pay the state the money owed from being held there, so his Probation Officer took him in. He hasn't heard anything from anyone concerning anything. How long can he be held for not paying the state the money he owed them?

He will be scheduled a violation of probation hearing in front of his back Judge who will determine his fate. He should be prepared with reasons as to why he didn't make payments in the past; I.e. did he lose his job? Have unexpected medical bills? He should also have a payment plan for the future to show the Judge he is serious about pay his debt.
