How long after my mother gets her green card can she file for her children? 1 Answers as of March 06, 2011

How long after my mother gets her green card can she file for me (26) unmarried? How many years will I have to wait for the petition to go through? Saw some of the questions and they are saying that there is a backlog for some countries. I was born in Venezuela but I am a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago where my mother is from. So how long would those countries have to wait? I live in the United States

Your mom can file to become a citzien 4 years and 9 months after she receives the green card. You will have a wait of at least 4 years - look up the visa bulletin (under 1st preference category, based on your mom being a citizen, and you being unmarried).
