How do I find someone to sponsor me to help bring my wife to the US? 8 Answers as of December 15, 2011

I married a Filipino lady in 2009 and I have tried to bring her to the USA. I was told I need a sponsor since my income is not enough. Where can I find a person that would be willing to be a sponsor to help me bring my wife to the USA?

Generally a sponsor is a friend or a family member. You need to talk to your friends and family to find someone who is willing to be a joint sponsor for your wife.

Anyone with an income 125% above the poverty level is eligible to jointly sponsor your wife with you. They only need to prove their citizenship and their income. It is a very minimal commitment, so it would be worth it to start asking around among your friends to see if you can find someone who is willing to assist you.

A sponsor will be financially responsible for the alien she is sponsoring. Finding one will be difficult. Start with family and friends who are citizens or lawful permanent residents, are at least 18 years old, and who reside in the United States.

Anyone can be a co-sponsor. You need to ask a family member or friend. It is unlikely a stranger would take on that burden.

The affidavit of support can be signed by any U.S. citizen or permanent resident living in the U.S. The co-sponsor needs to meet all the financial requirement. The co-sponsor needs to prove that he is above the 125% of the federal poverty guidelines and earns enough to pay for his own living expenses, his dependents and the sponsored immigrant.
