How do I determine a cost for my pain? 1 Answers as of November 09, 2010

I was involved in a work accident due to negligence and I am trying to figure out the cost of my pain in order to begin a lawsuit. I know how much my medical bills cost but I cannot figure out how to translate things like pain into a value. Where do I start?

If the accident is covered by workers compensation and no third party is liable for the incident, your cost for pain is pre-set by the workers compensation board. If some other entity outside of work is responsible for your injuries, it will depend on the nature of those injuries and the incident itself, among other factors. There is no quick formula like many people relied in in decades past.
