How do I change a child custody order made in another state? 4 Answers as of November 16, 2011

I live in California and my divorce was finalized in Utah. My ex spouse recently moved also to California. We need to change the custody orders, but don't want to go back to Utah. Can we do the changes and get a new order here?

As long as you have resided in California for at least 6 months, you can file an action in this state. The California court can then assume jurisdiction over the matter.

Yes you can do it here in California. You need to register the out of state order and then file an "Order to Show Cause" to modify the current Orders.
