How can we protect our restaurant from someone that was never formally hired? Posted on May 02, 2011

An individual was being considered for a part time bartender position. He came in to train and see if he like the position and if we liked him. After training for 6 hrs, he had a family emergency and never returned to further the hiring process. We at that time did not consider him for hire. I will be paying him for his time spent with us, but I feel after several conversations with him, that he might be a problem. Should I write anything on his check to indicate that there was no consideration of employment? Whats the best way to protect myself from him or any future problems? Thank you
