How can I protect my son from unfairness by his 3rd grade teacher? 1 Answers as of February 08, 2012
My son's problems start from the first days of September. His teacher has a punishment system - the idea is each kid has 5 "dollars" on his account and for every fault they can lose a dollar and if they'll not have at least 1 dollar on the Friday, they have to go to the sad room during recess. So starting from September till today 2/1/2012 my son hasn’t been in the sad room only 4 times. The teacher also has a so called “dollar book” where they write down the fault for what they lose a dollar. Here are some of records from the “dollar book” : “I lost a dollar, because I dropped a paper when I took my book “, “I lost a dollar because I gave my paperwork to teacher instead of putting in the tray” “I lost all my dollars because I didn’t capitalize a geographical name.” I asked for meeting with the principal and teacher and all these questions were discussed. But after that, the situation became even worse. Now this lady starts sending my son to the principal office (2-3 times every day) for things like: "During Soccer I accidently hit someone by ball",” During game I said someone that he'll fail,” etc. It looks like this lady in personal war with my 8 years old kid. Write down as exactly as possible what occurred among you, the principal and teacher. State the date, time and location of the meeting. Produce a typewritten (e.g. computer) version of your account. Don't do it in narrative form. State each point separately and number them. Have some competent person you know go over your statement with you. State that you consider this to be actionable harassment by the school district. The word "actionable" means you think you have a case in court. If anything is actionable the district would be liable. With this you are showing some force and putting everything on the record to "box in" the principal. Be sure to get a signed acknowledgement of receipt from the receptionist.
