How can I get the lien against my home removed? 1 Answers as of May 12, 2011

I did a voluntary repo in 2003. I was never notified of anything after that. I am now finalizing my divorce settlement and have discovered there is a judgment lien against the real property for the deficit balance. I was never notified for court or served with any type of notice. Is there a way to get the lien removed? We bought the property years after the judgment was filed according to the date on the lien.

You can pay it. Or you can try to persuade the judge that you didn't have notice and also that you have a good defense (sounds like you don't) and see if he will give you a new chance to fight it. The reason people file bankruptcy is so you don't have to keep looking over your shoulder, to see if old debts have snuck back up on you.
