I am a green card holder and my fiance is a US citizen. We are trying to adopt my niece from Thailand and have no idea where to began. I was told by an attorney to petition for her here on visitor visa then we can process to adoption. How do we go about petition for her visa? And how long does it take to get it approved?

In Colorado you cannot adopt a child from a foreign country without the involvement of a qualified adoption agency. That agency will be able to advise you of the various requirements and assist you in doing what needs to be done. There are several competent agencies who handle foreign adoptions listed in the yellow pages.
