It is easier under Michigan law than Federal law for someone to possess firearms after a felony is expunged. In fact, its almost impossible when it comes to federal law. The first thing you should do is write a letter to your counties Gun Board, and request a hearing to have your right to possess a firearm restored.

The ATFE has ruled that a felony expungment may not allw a an exfelon to own a firearm as the expungement can be used against a person who seeks a concealed pistol license.

Your record was EXPUNGED. It's like the felony NEVER happened. You should be able to get a firearm. Of course, law-types (cops, prosecutors) may still balk at this . . . but technically you should be able to get one. If any trouble . . . retain an attorney to represent you in court or at a gun board hearing.

Unless your expungement makes reference to not possessing a firearm per statute requirements or similar reference, generally the possession of firearm should not apply to expungement.

Both the federal and state statutes say that no person who has been convicted of a felony may obtain a CPL. Although your conviction may have been expunged, you were still convicted of a felony. The statutes are silent as to the issue of expunged crimes. However, given the plain language, I would say that since you were convicted of a felony, even though it was expunged, you would not be eligible for a CPL.
