Does copyright law prevent me from using a common term? 2 Answers as of September 20, 2010

I have had an online business for about a year or so. I use the term PC Repair as part of my site. The other day I received a Cease and Desist Demand letter saying that I need to take that term off of the site. I doubt this is true because it is such a widely used term. What should I do?

Deal with the demand. Either cease, negotiate a resolution with that company, or continue and risk legal action. The only way you are going to get a useful opinion is to consult with an attorney and discuss and disclose ALL the facts and issues. If serious about doing so, contact me.

No. I think you may be confusing trademark law that does not allow you to trademark a mark that is merely descriptive.
